Why Your Small Business needs an eCommerce Website
The internet is changing, having a static website, may no longer be enough to get business, sell your products and services online, with eCommerce website design.
There are millions of people searching the internet every day, looking for products and services. Online shopping is increasing year on year, it’s a convenient way to purchase products or services. It’s a shop that’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is accessible worldwide.
The Power of eCommerce Website Design
When setting up an online store, my go-to tool is WooCommerce, which is a powerful and extendable eCommerce platform for WordPress. It gives you total control over your website shop, starting with what you sell and how the shop looks, all the way through to advanced features and scalability. WooCommerce offers flexible payment and shipping options, provides stock control and more.
Sell Physical or Digital Products
Woocommerce gives you the power to sell physical or digital products online. A digital product can be anything that you want to sell without having a tangible product that you physically handle. Digital products include items like audio files, photos, e-books, PDF or docs files, zip files, videos, games, etc.
Variable products are a product type in WooCommerce that allows you to offer variations on a product, with control over prices, stock, images and more for each variation. They can be used for products like a shirt, where you can offer a large, medium and small and in different colours.
Various currency options are available in WooCommerce or from extensions. This makes it possible for customers to pay for your products and services, in their local currency or gives you the ability to sell in different currencies if you need.
There is a built-in system within WooCommerce to let you manage your inventory. Once you have enabled stock management in the products inventory settings, WooCommerce will help you keep track of your what you sell online and amounts you have left.
Multiple Payment Options
WooCommerce offers several ways to take payments, Credit card payments, cheque payments, bank transfer, Paypal and cash on delivery. These gateways are direct channels that will connect your online store with external merchant accounts. By adding WooCommerce extensions, it’s possible to add 100+ payment gateways, for selling your product and services.
Different Shipping Options
Ship your products all over the world with Woocommerce. It allows you to have total control over shipping, offering flat-rate, free or local pick-up options, which can be controlled by location. You can also create different shipping rates based on product type or delivery location. Further shipping flexibility can be obtained through WooCommerce extensions, providing even more solutions.
Discount Coupons & Codes
WooCommerce allows you to provide coupon codes, which is a great way to offer discounts and rewards to your customers and can help promote sales across your shop.
Working out various taxes such as VAT can get complex when selling online. WooCommerce provides various option settings to make this process easier.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to sell your products and services online, with an eCommerce Website.
Be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even during a global pandemic.

eCommerce Website Design FAQ’s
Here are some of our most frequently answered eCommerce website design questions and answers.
How long does it take to build a website?
Timescales are dependent on the size of the project, the time it takes to provide content, information and feedback, and other ongoing work I may have. Most websites will take between 6-8 weeks, eCommerce websites take approximately 12 weeks.
Do you only create WordPress Websites?
Yes, WordPress is the best content management system that powers nearly half of the world wide web. It’s flexible, extremely customisable, with added functionality, and it’s easy to use interface allows clients to self-manage their websites.
What technologies do you use to build websites?
Do you offer training on managing my website?
I provide documentation for both WordPress and Divi as well as share extra online resources, where you can find anything you need to know. If requested, I can also provide video tutorials on the most common tasks that you may need or one-to-one training sessions, (£20 per hour) to walk you through managing your website.
Will my website be mobile-friendly?
Yes! Having a mobile-friendly website is important for user experience and search engines. I work hard to ensure your website is responsive to modern devices and browsers.
Do I have to be in Brighton & Hove to work with you?
No, I will work with clients in the UK, or globally and can communicate online.
Do you provide website hosting and domain?
No, I believe it’s important for clients to be responsible for their website hosting and domain. This will ensure that you will continue to have full access and total control of your website. However, I can recommend great hosting companies and packages. that provide 24/7 support, super-fast speed and with the latest server technology, for a competitive price.
Who provides the content for the website?
You do, you know your business, it’s customers and what you need from your website. You will need to provide all the written content for the website, as well as images, such as logos, photos, infographics and anything you may need. However, if you are not sure how to write for the web or what content to include, I do provide a guide, full of advice, tips on how to write engaging content and other helpful information.
Do you provide a mock-up of the website design?
Before starting your website project, I like to know how you want your website to look and feel, preferably with examples of websites you like. I will then create the homepage and one other page, based on your design brief, using the website page builder. The page builder allows web pages to be built and changed more easily and is often a better option than spending time creating a website mock-up.
Will you maintain our website for us?
I can help maintain your website, or you can make the more minor, edits, updates, and additions yourself. I provide a website maintenance service, or you can contact me as you require updates to your website, and I will provide an hourly quote based on your requests. The choice is up to you, but whatever you decide, it’s important to keep WordPress and Divi updated for performance and security.
Will I be able to update the site myself when it’s finished?
Yes, you will have full control of the website and can learn how to manage the content yourself. My websites are built using WordPress and a page builder, making it easier to edit text, add or remove images and control products and pricing etc. However, I do recommend a professional (developer) to complete more complex changes and maintenance such as design or structure changes, and complex functionality requirements. I do offer a website maintenance plan or you can contact me as you require updates to your website.
Will my website be search engine friendly?
Yes, I don’t believe it’s worth having a website if it’s not optimised for search engines and cannot be found online. All my websites include key SEO best practices, and procedures, to help your business succeed online.
